Daniel Woods appointed as FleetScout Managing Director
FleetScout has appointed Daniel Woods as its new Managing Director. Daniel moves from his role as IT Director for parent company, Activate Group, bringing his leadership experience in technology strategy, software development and AI-driven innovation to the business.
Daniel, who has been instrumental in the development and launch of FleetScout, will lead the continued growth of the automated vehicle inspection (AVI) technology, which uses advanced AI to help fleets identify vehicle damage, improve accountability and reduce the cost of unreported incidents.
Daniel joined Activate Group in 2017 as IT Project Manager, progressing to Head of Information Technology in 2018 and IT Director in 2021.
As IT Director, he led the Group’s technology strategy, overseeing infrastructure, cybersecurity, software development and IT support, while aligning technology investment with wider business objectives. Activate Group is in the process of appointing a new Group IT Director to lead its experienced in-house support and development teams.
Daniel played a key role in developing FleetScout in collaboration with Activate Group business sopp+sopp, the commercial fleet accident management specialists. It was designed in response to feedback from fleet customers about a key challenge: identifying when and where vehicle damage occurs.
FleetScout uses AI-powered scanning technology to inspect vehicles as they enter and exit a site, detecting damage and providing an immediate report through its central platform. The technology helps operators distinguish between existing and newly identified damage, supporting more informed decision-making and greater control over fleet condition.
In his new role, Daniel will build on this foundation, supporting FleetScout’s ongoing development and delivering further value to fleet operators through automation, AI, and data-led insights.
Callum Langan, Managing Director of sopp+sopp, said:
“FleetScout was developed in response to a genuine challenge faced by fleet operators, and Daniel has played a vital role in turning that challenge into a practical, technology-led solution. His understanding of both the technology and the operational needs of FleetScout’s customers makes him ideally placed to lead FleetScout into its next phase of growth.”
Daniel Woods commented:
“I’m delighted to take on the role of Managing Director at such an exciting stage in FleetScout’s development. Having been closely involved in its creation, I’ve seen first-hand the potential of the technology and the difference it can make to fleet operators.
Our focus is on continuing to evolve the platform, building on our AI capabilities, and developing new ways to help fleets identify damage, improve accountability and reduce avoidable costs. There is significant opportunity to expand what FleetScout can deliver, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and our customers to realise that potential.”
Daniel is a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMgr FCMI), with additional professional accreditations including ITIL, PRINCE2 and Microsoft certifications.
His appointment reinforces FleetScout’s commitment to developing technology that tackles real-world fleet challenges, building on its heritage within sopp+sopp and the wider Activate Group to help customers improve vehicle visibility, reduce avoidable costs and manage their fleets more effectively.
